Insurance Value-Chain Meets Innovation

In late September, several Holmes Murphy representatives ventured to Las Vegas for the 2022 InsureTech Connect (ITC) Conference — the largest insurtech conference in the world.

The conference was significant for Holmes Murphy, as it marked the 3-year anniversary of the launch of our innovation subsidiary company, BrokerTech Ventures (BTV).

Over the last three years, our leadership team has been building a relationship with the ITC community, which led to the creation and forming of BrokerTech Connect — a focused segment of the conference that converges brokers at the epicenter of the insurance value chain.

BrokerTech Connect took place during ITC on September 20th, with a standing room-only series of panels elevating thought leaders in our industry. As the first convening company to bring together brokers, insurance companies and wholesalers, insurtech startups, and capital partners, we continue to see great interest from our industry in terms of how we are driving change — not only change in perception of our industry through driving talent and culture, but also change in the willingness to explore open-architecture and movement away from legacy systems.

Several key themes surfaced during BrokerTech Connect this year, including:

  • Insurtech fundraising and deal-flow
  • Practical applications of technology
  • The future of the industry
  • Diversification of talent
  • Insurtech as a storytelling catalyst

As I have been honored to work closely with John Jackovin, our BTV Accelerator Executive Director, and others behind the scenes in planning BrokerTech Connect, it was rewarding to see all of these themes come to life through the voices of BTV stakeholders. You can hear the passion, drive, and fortitude behind the commentary, and certainly a great interest in leaving our industry in a greater position than when we all arrived here.

We have a long way to go, but three years in, we are bullish about the future of BTV and our ability to influence the industry — for the better. If you’re interested in learning more about BTV, I’d love for you to reach out to us.
