LifeServe Blood Center and Holmes Murphy Unite to Deliver Lifesaving Blood Supplies to Ukraine

LifeServe Blood Center is offering community blood donors a way to help support Ukrainian relief efforts through blood donations.

Unfortunately, individual volunteer blood donations are unable to be sent directly to the country of Ukraine. However, local blood donors have a unique opportunity to save lives locally while also extending a helping hand to send much-needed blood collection supplies to Ukraine. Blood donors who give blood between April 18 – April 30 can have the reward points they earn for their generous donation given to the efforts to support the Ukrainian Blood Service.

“What’s happening in Ukraine is devastating,” said Danielle West, Director of PR and Marketing at LifeServe Blood Center. “We’re excited to offer a meaningful way to help support Ukrainian relief efforts while also impacting the community blood supply. While the country of Ukraine needs blood supply and equipment support, our community is also in need of lifesaving blood donations. Our blood inventory levels have been much lower than desired this year. This opportunity encourages our local blood donors to come together to help others in this time of crisis while also helping close to home.”

The kick-off of this giving campaign falls during the observation of National Volunteer Week — a week created to celebrate and recognize selfless individuals who donate their time, efforts, knowledge, and even blood to various causes. Between April 18 – April 30, every LifeServe blood donor will have the opportunity to donate Online Store points they would receive for that day’s donation towards this effort. In lieu of reward items offered via LifeServe’s Online Store, all point donations will be matched by LifeServe Blood Center up to a $10,000 monetary contribution, which will be used to purchase blood-collection equipment directly in support of patient care. Fresenius Kabi, a world-wide manufacturer and distributor of blood supplies and equipment, will match these donations on a 1:1 ratio up to a maximum of $250,000.

As a long-term supporter of the volunteer blood donor program and LifeServe Blood Center, Holmes Murphy has already been very active in Ukraine relief efforts through various internal programs. Nataliya Boychenko Stone, a Holmes Murphy team member and Ukraine native, knows first-hand the devastation felt across Ukraine as many of her relatives and friends still live there.

Nataliya and Holmes Murphy are leading the way to not only encourage local blood donations, which ensure a strong community blood supply, but also directly support the needs of patients who rely upon donated blood in Ukraine. As part of Holmes Murphy’s efforts, they are encouraging their team members to give within this two-week timeframe and hosting their own blood drive at their Waukee location on Tuesday, April 19.

“We are excited to partner with such an amazing organization like LifeServe where we’re not only able to help our community but also the Ukraine area in a critical time of need,” said Nataliya Boychenko Stone, Client Executive at Holmes Murphy.
