Holmes Murphy Recognized for Honoring and Supporting the Work of Military Team Members

Company to be recognized by the Iowa ESGR at ceremony in April.

Holmes Murphy was recently awarded a 2021 Iowa Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) State Chair Award. ESGR is a Department of Defense program that develops and promotes work environments that support service members in the Reserve Components through outreach, recognition, and educational opportunities. It also provides assistance in resolving conflicts between service members and their employers. Organizations that receive this award are nominated by current employees working for the company, and selections are made based on companies that consistently exemplify outstanding relations and support to service members and their families.

Tyson Overton, a current member of the Iowa Army National Guard, nominated Holmes Murphy. Overton, who is a systems engineer and has been employed by Holmes Murphy since 2012, says he wanted to say thank you to Holmes Murphy for always going above and beyond to encourage the duties that he and other service members do with flexibility and understanding.

“At Holmes Murphy, our culture is inclusive to all employees. I have been with Holmes Murphy for just over eight years, and at no time have they ever not been 100% supportive of my service in the Army National Guard. Some years, I am required to attend long drills, extended ATs, and schools that take me away for several weeks at a time,” said Overton. “It really is wonderful to work for an employer that supports me so much, thus allowing me to continue to serve our great state and country.”

Holmes Murphy is one of 38 Iowa employers who received special recognition and will be honored at an upcoming virtual ceremony on April 9.

“Our nation’s service men and women don’t hesitate to fight for America, protecting us and preserving our freedoms, so at Holmes Murphy we are committed to ensuring our military team members are supported in any way they need it,” said Dan Keough, Holmes Murphy Chairman & CEO. “We are incredibly honored to receive this award, and we are appreciative and humbled to have — and be working alongside — such outstanding military men and women.”

In addition to receiving this recognition, Gentry Cairo, Overton’s Holmes Murphy leader, was honored late last year with the ESGR Patriotic Employer Award for his continued support of Overton.
