The claims data from the 2nd quarter of 2025 is in! As our Holmes Murphy Architects and Engineers (A&E) team continues to track real time claims data, we are seeing trends beginning to form.

Q2 2025 confirms trends from Q4 2024 as well as Q1 2025—Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) issues continue to be the basis for most reported claims. The upside to this information is that (QA/QC) is an area that clients can address and improve with strategic policies and procedures that may help reduce these claims over time.

We’ve summarized our key insights below—for additional context, check out our comprehensive report.

Claims and Pre-Claims

During the 2nd quarter of 2025, our clients reported a total of 20 claims and 37 pre-claim assistance reports, averaging approximately one report per business day. Activity appears to be slightly up from 2025 Q1. April 2025 experienced the highest activity in a single month since we began tracking data in Q4 of 2024 with a total of 23 claims and pre-claim assistance reported. The data shows Civil Engineering LPs/Claims are up 18% from Q1. Architect LPs/Claims are down 9% from Q1.

Revenue and Size of Firms

We continue to see a significant number of claims come through our smaller firms with revenue under $10 million. In the 2nd quarter, almost half of the claims reported were from this sample size. Our small-size firms ($2-10 million in revenue) led the way with 9 total claims in the 2nd quarter.

Quality Control Claims

As we reported in Q4 2024 and Q1 2025, third-party injuries aren’t the primary source of new claim reports. However, our data reveals a higher frequency of issues related to quality control. The Q2 data shows that QA/QC issues continue to be the leader of LPS/Claims reported. We see this as an opportunity to encourage firms to review and refine their QA/QC training and procedures.

Geographic Breakdown

We continue to monitor the claim reporting data by geographic region. As more data points come in, we hope to be able to provide context to which areas see more claim activity.

Bonus Risk Management

In June, we attended “The Fears and Risks of Tariffs and the Impact on Design” webinar, presented by Andrew Mendelson, EVP and Chief Risk Management Officer for Berkley Design Professional. Andrew shared valuable insights and considerations relating to tariffs and the design industry. Check out our top 10 takeaways to learn more.
