Placement Consultant, PC (Construction)

We are looking to add a Placement Consultant, PC (Construction) to join our Placement team in Waukee, IA or Minneapolis, MN. Candidates thrive in our environment when they harness their collaborative mindset, strong interpersonal communication skills, and a love of learning.

Duties:

Work closely with Leaders and Business Partners to:

  • Develop applications from raw data, such as current policies or specifications and information available on the internet.
  • Create and set up loss histories using Excel software from gathered information.
  • Run building valuations.
  • Order applicable underwriting reports as needed.
  • Prepare submissions to include applications and various support documents.
  • Set up new clients in the agency management system (AMS) and other appropriate software. Input policy information in AMS for smooth transition to the Client Experience Team.
  • Request and monitor process for the loss summary and experience mod forecast report gets completed.
  • Complete online rating if necessary.
  • Compare exposure schedules to quotes.
  • Prepare coverage proposal and premium displays.
  • Document required underwriting information.
  • Compare requested coverage to the coverage quoted by carriers for further negotiation and discussion with underwriters.
  • Schedules and leads client meetings.
  • Presents turnover meeting materials to service team.
  • Provide answers, solutions, or direction to questions or concerns by sales team, service team, prospects and underwriters in a courteous and timely manner.
  • Research information in response to internal requests as needed.
  • Develop/maintain effective communication and relationships with company underwriters and client experience team in order to build trust and write business. This includes meeting with underwriters when they visit the office, as well as attending social events before or after work hours.
  • Participates in team meetings and initiatives.
  • Perform special projects as identified as assigned by the Sr. Placement Consultant and AVP, Placement Consultant.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Understanding of Property and Casualty Insurance industry.
  • Understanding of various insurance policy types, including but not limited to: GL, Property, Package, Umbrella, Auto, etc.
  • Understanding of additional broader insurance policy types, including but not limited to: Management Liability, Cyber, D&O, DIC, Captive, etc.
  • Ability to analyze forms to confirm Holmes Murphy minimum standards and identify omitted enhancements.
  • Understands agency and carrier operations and relationships with multiple years of handling own accounts.
  • Competitive knowledge of competing agencies and brokerages, ability to identify local competition
  • Competitive knowledge of carriers and wholesalers and knowledge of underwriters/coverage offerings at key carrier partners.
  • Ability to delegate tasks to Placement Specialists and supports Sr. Consultants, AVPs as needed.
  • Ability to advise and consult with Account Executives as needed.
  • Ability to provide timely responses, both internal and external.
  • Detail orientation and problem-solving ability. Accuracy is a major component.
  • Strong written, oral communication and negotiation skills.
  • Experience with computer data entry required; working familiarity with AMS, Excel and Word and other company software.
  • Proficient and knowledgeable on Inputs, updating, creation of proposals, creation of diaries, etc.
  • High level of organizational ability; able to handle and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work a 7.75 hour workday, and extended hours when necessary.
  • Strong analytical skills, with ability to perform simple to complex mathematic computations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Willingness to pursue a technical designation/education CISR, CIC, CPCU or other designation approved by the manager.
  • Must be knowledgeable of and comply with HMA’s Client Privacy Policy, HIPAA regulations and E&O procedures and policies.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Ability to obtain state-specific license within three months of employment and maintain license in the state of residence or office location by attending continuing education. Expectation to have obtained at least one Insurance Designation (ARM, CPCU, CRM, etc.)
  • Experience: 5 plus years’ experience in the insurance industry is required. Experience in agency setting preferred. Bachelor’s degree in a science, technology or engineering, or math-related, or equivalent work experience.
