Beginning in December 2019, ANSI (American National Standards Institute) will be implementing a revised standard for Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs). ANSI’s new A92 standards will impact how and when contractors train employees, perform job site risk assessments, as well as take a look at supervisor responsibilities, onsite communication, rescue planning, and other changes which include new MEWP classifications and a new user/operator class for the occupant.
It is also important to understand that this new ANSI standard will impact everyone equally, from the largest construction company to the smallest facility management team. It is important to note, that this is not an OSHA specific standard as-of-yet. We say as-of-yet because OSHA often adopts ANSI standards via “incorporation by reference.” When these standards are adopted or incorporated, they become part of the OSHA regulation and therefore compliance is mandatory.
Join our very own Safety & Risk Specialist Chris Poe as he:
- Distinguishes between the different types of MEWPs
- Explains the regulatory changes of ANSI A92
- Defines ANSI A92 MEWP groups and types
- Identifies the equipment design changes required by ANSI A92
- Determines the necessary elements for a MEWP rescue plan
- Recognizes the three types of ANSI A92 personnel training requirements
