Data Engineer

We are looking to add a Data Engineer to join our Information Technology team in Waukee, IA. Candidates thrive in our environment when they harness their collaborative mindset, strong interpersonal communication skills, and a love of learning.
This role will support the company’s vision, mission, and strategy by executing tactical plans to build, maintain, and modernize the between systems integrations and data movements required for business continuity, data warehousing, and reporting.
Here’s just a bit of what you’d do:
Works closely with the Enterprise Solutions Architect and Integrations Manager to:
- Build, test, and maintain ETL/ELT flows and SQL queries to support data movement into and out the data warehouse/marts.
- Build, test, and maintain ETL/ELT flows that support data movement between enterprise systems.
- Potentially create, maintain, and optimize SQL queries, views, stored procedures, and functions that support data movement.
- Provide operational support for the scheduled jobs including monitoring, performance tuning, and debugging of data movement flows utilizing automation whenever possible, ensuring continuity and execution of the jobs.
- Works with data analysts and business stakeholders to ensure the quality and accuracy of the data. Assist with data cleansing through bulk changes or insertion of findings into a data quality and stewardship framework.
- Work with the Enterprise Solutions Architect on strategy and architecture of the modernization of legacy integrations and ETL flows. Assist in the building, testing, and conversion to the modern architecture.
- Work with the Enterprise Solutions Architect on development of the data mart architecture for model management and mart delivery to data consumers.
You’d also need to be equipped with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to do the job, including, but not limited to:
- Experience building ETL dataflows. Alteryx or Azure Data Factory preferred.
- Hands-on experience with a variety of data sources, structured and unstructured, such as delimited, fixed width, database, blob, etc.
- Experience with APIs and/or RPA for the collection of third-party data preferred. Salesforce and Azure experience a plus.
- Experience with cloud data storage, Azure preferred.
- Experience with/knowledge of modern data tools and technologies such as Snowflake, Azure Synapse, Databricks, dbt, Census, FiveTran, etc. a plus.
- Knowledge of Insurance Industry preferred but not required.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously.
- Communication skills required. Must be able to effectively communicate within the Enterprise IT and integrations team.
- Capable of exercising discretion in confidential matters and use independent judgment.
- Must be knowledgeable of and comply with our Client Privacy Policy, HIPAA regulations and E&O procedures and policies.

- Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a science, technology or engineering, or math-related, or equivalent work experience.
- Experience: 3+ years of work-related experience.
