Sr. Captive Manager/Sr. Insurance Accountant

We are hiring a Senior Captive Manager/Senior Insurance Accountant to join our Innovative Captive Strategies team in Bigfork, MT.  Ideal candidates will have a passion for client service, excellent communications skills, and a strong technical accounting background.

The purpose of this position is to successfully and profitably manage a diverse portfolio of captive insurance companies.

Main Responsibilities Include:

  • Responsible for the coordination of captive related work groups to formulate strategies, administer policies, create processes and collect resources for all aspects of captive program management (design, development, implementation and ongoing management). This also includes the initiation, development, and implementation of complex risk financing arrangements.
  • Manage relationships with clients, auditors, actuaries, lawyers, insurance brokers, investment brokers, reinsurance intermediaries, and regulatory authorities.
  • Oversee and provide information to independent actuaries to determine funding and retention level for captive program, annual actuarial evaluation, cost allocation and forecasting.
  • Manage annual independent audit with CPA firm, annual actuarial review, and annual federal income tax preparation. Captives must also undergo domicile statutory examinations every 5 years.
  • Responsible for the preparation and/or review of financial statements issued by ICS to outside parties to ensure accurate reporting of captive activity.
  • Become familiar with reading, understanding, and analyzing property/casualty coverage forms and applying that knowledge in the performance of the job duties. Must also be able to produce custom policy forms to conform to captive needs/requirements.
  • Ensure all reporting submissions meet deadlines and are accurate.
  • Manages and oversees specifications for reinsurance broker or underwriter proposals. Evaluates proposals with captive management team and provides board with recommendations.  Communicates any changes in insurance and reinsurance to regulating authorities.
  • Coordinate meetings for captive related committees and workgroups. This includes agenda preparation, creation and distribution of materials and presentation.
  • Ensuring captives comply with applicable rules and regulations and efficiently integrate new captive legislation into existing workflow processes. This includes educating staff and clients of any emerging captive laws and regulations.
  • Schedule and attend and prepare documents for annual board meetings for each captive.
  • For new business, oversees the preparation of the licensing application to obtain Certificate of Authority in desired domicile.
  • Oversight of Program Managers and Assistant Program Managers, as applicable.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities include:

  • Ability to prepare, read, understand and present captive financial statements.
  • General knowledge of captive and property/casualty coverage and the ability to apply that knowledge in the performance of job duties.
  • General knowledge of business structures and corporate governance.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft software packages such as, WORD, EXCEL, and POWERPOINT. Ability to effectively use the internet.
  • Experience with accounting reporting systems.
  • Familiarity with insurance premium bordereau and loss runs.
  • Ability to perform simple to complex mathematical calculations.
  • Knowledge of organizational methods and the ability to manage multiple tasks/duties simultaneously.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently as well as in a team environment to attain personal, team and company goals.
  • Must acquire and maintain active Montana Property & Casualty insurance producer license within 3 months of hire.
  • Ability to keep current on industry trends and develop relationships with contacts within the industry.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to apply these skills in either verbal or written form when interacting with various clients, company personnel, and team members.
  • Ability and willingness to present at and participate in internal and external educational opportunities to enhance knowledge of current insurance topics or relevant system improvements.
  • Ability to work daily and extended hours, as necessary.
  • Ability to assist in other work-related duties, as necessary.

Education:      

College Degree in Business, Finance or Accounting preferred.

Experience:    

  • Minimum five years accounting experience with preference for experience in insurance and/or captive management.
  • Must acquire and maintain active Montana Property & Casualty insurance producer license within 3 months of hire.
