Accountant, Accounts Receivable

We are looking to add an Accountant to join our Accounts Receivable team in Waukee, IA. Candidates thrive in our environment when they harness their collaborative mindset, strong interpersonal communication skills, and a love of learning.

 

This role will perform accounts receivable functions in accordance with the objectives and procedures set forth by the management of Holmes, Murphy & Associates, Inc.

Duties:

 

Work closely with Leaders and Business Partners to:

 

Handle direct bill commission and cash receipts, including but not limited to:

  • Receive electronic files from various sources, format and import into our agency management system. Post any entries that reject or are unavailable for import.
  • Communicate with internal staff and insurance companies to resolve issues of producer commission, policies, and payment timing

 

Other tasks as assigned by supervisor, including but not limited to:

  • Coordinate premium financing for clients with external premium finance companies.
  • Prepare contingency reports to ensure proper producer commission pay calculations.
  • Establish general ledger details/information for volume bonuses to make sure those payments are reported correctly on the division financial statements.
  • Performs special projects and other duties as requested.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to work with detail, follow directions and maintain a high level of accuracy.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft products and accounting systems.
  • Ability to communicate well with persons at all levels of authority both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to learn and utilize advanced technology associated with job functions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Capable of exercising discretion in confidential matters and uses independent judgement.
  • Ability to perform multiple duties simultaneously during peak periods.
  • Ability to be available for work on a daily basis for a minimum of 7.75 hours per day and for overtime as necessary to perform duties.
  • Knowledge of standard accounting principles.
  • Knowledge of federal and state tax guidelines and procedures. Ability to utilize calculator to perform various mathematical functions.
  • Must be knowledgeable of and comply with HMA’s Client Privacy Policy, HIPAA regulations and E&O procedures and policies.

 

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma required; Degree in Accounting preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum 1-2 years of accounting experience, preferably in the insurance industry.
