We are looking to add a Population Health Consultant to join our ICS Employee Benefits team in Waukee, IA. Candidates thrive in our environment when they harness their collaborative mindset, strong interpersonal communication skills, and a love of learning.
This role will sit at the center of our health/well-being strategy, to accurately measure performance, understand key drivers, and identify opportunities to positively impact captive member’s engagement and claims experience. This position will have responsibilities to assist with carrying out our approach to health and well-being risk management strategy and collaborate to develop new ideas and initiatives to improve performance of captive members. This position will also assist with the operation and utilization of our analytics platform to leverage data in a way to tell stories and answer questions around clinical care and population health and engagement.
Duties:
- Demonstrate a record of data-driven discovery, intense intellectual curiosity, and a passion for working with data to answer important questions about clinical care and population health within, and across, captive programs.
- Collaborate with operational and captive leads to design and track population health metrics, as well as develop insights that will provide captive membership with the data to better make decisions that affect their population(s).
- Create reports and dashboards that effectively communicate performance, internally to operational/captive leads and, externally to captive membership.
- Engage with end users (internally and externally) to understand the question being asked, story to be told, or case study to be highlighted and determine the right methodology and assumptions.
- Provide analysis related to medication management, vendor operations, health outcomes research, and new opportunities that would positively impact quality performance and reduction of inappropriate utilization/ medical spend.
- Aggregate and interpret operational and utilization data in order to identify populations that would benefit from new programs or interventions, as well as evaluate the effectiveness of interventions on populations.
- Identify trends in data, including those that were not necessarily being activity monitored, which may have an impact on performance and/or member outcomes.
- Assist and advise on the development of key performance indicators that appropriately measure clinical and wellness outcome data in order to gauge effectiveness of clinical programs and related initiatives.
- Serve as a consultative subject matter and technical expert, internally and externally, as the first point of contact on our data analytics platform to be able to continually find new ways to leverage the capabilities of the system to align with our strategy and approach.
Work closely with Leaders and Business Partners to assist and/or manage responsibilities related, but not limited, captive member meetings, member calls/webinars, captive committee meetings, etc.
- Work with the team members to assist with developing agendas, board books, power point presentations, and other necessary materials.
- Create reports and dashboards that effectively communicate captive member performance and trends.
- Educate committee members on population health topics and initiatives.
- Develop an engaging topic schedule for captive wide education calls.
- Stay current with health/well-being trends, clinical risk topics, employer solutions; etc.
- Facilitate all health/well-being portions of the meetings/calls for applicable captives.
- Prepare and send all follow up member meeting communications related to captive member population health performance.
Team Duties
- Develops and maintains positive work relationships with team members to include participating in team meetings, providing back up when necessary, communicating information, and effectively problem solving as situations arise.
- Develops and maintains positive working relationships with support staff outside the sales team to ensure customer needs are met.
- Support ICS Structure and Culture.

- Excellent communication skills and the ability to apply these skills in either verbal or written form when interacting with various clients, company personnel, and team members.

- Knowledge of organizational methods and the ability to manage multiple tasks/duties simultaneously.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment such as; computer, calculators, copier, telephone, and fax machines, etc.
- Working knowledge of various software packages such as, WORD, EXCEL, and POWERPOINT. Ability to effectively use the internet/intranet.
- Ability and willingness to consistently participate in internal and external educational opportunities to enhance knowledge of current insurance topics or relevant system improvements.
- Ability to keep current on industry trends and develop relationships with contacts within the industry.
- Ability to work daily and extended hours as necessary.
- Ability to assist in other work-related duties, as necessary.
- Ability to travel as needed.
- Must be knowledgeable of and comply with HMA’s Client Privacy Policy, HIPAA regulations and E&O procedures and policies.
Qualifications:
- Education: Acquire, and maintain, active life/health insurance agent’s license within 90 days of employment. College degree preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of two to five years of experience in employee benefits, providing customer service and clinical risk services.
